I’ve been saving this post for a few months now (five actually), waiting for when it was so hot, a few ‘cool’ pics would be welcomed. Back in February, there were a plethora of posts with photos of our big Tucson snow storm (it snowed twice in the same day–unheard of). I thought to myself “I will wait until the summer when we will be craving some coolness” … that day has arrived! Now that it’s seriously hot out (today’s forecast is for a high of 109 — it’s currently 105), it’s the perfect time to remember back to the past–in this case, back to two different snow storms, one in Feb 2013 and the other in Jan 2011. Both times I scooted out the door in early morning and trudged around in my snow boots (so fun one time a year!) taking photos at sunrise in the desert. My cameras have been upgraded between these two periods, as have my lenses, my techniques, style of processing and even my watermark. However, the photos are still amazing and captured a view that we find wonderful … sometimes of the valley below (Tucson) and sometimes of our mountains…we live about 1/2 mile from the Rincon mountains foothills and so they seem close enough to touch sometimes, especially in the snow. Shooting snowscapes at dawn is very exciting, especially when you are rewarded with pink-tinged skies. Ahhhh…I can almost FEEL the coolness as I look at these…how about you?
Finally, people will believe us when we say it does snow in Tucson!! My husband couldn’t believe these were from that day it snowed! Hmmmmm…thinking these would be a great notecard collection for those non-believers!
I really love this series. It shows an absolutely magical winter wonderland. Some of it reminds me of the winter scenes from Narnia!
Whoa! Such striking contrast to our hot hot summer we are in every year. Seeing these now make me feel cooler.
