The Empire-Cienega Conservation Resource Area (CRA), more commonly known as The Empire Ranch, is another of my happy places. Our family spent a lot of time there camping, riding horses, and visiting our friends who were caretakers years back. Our children learned to drive on the long dirt roads there and we have so many good memories. It’s also one of the few places in southern Arizona where there is running water year around that is not man-made. The Cienega Creek has a series of waterfalls that are magical and thankfully, were largely unknown to the public in the two decades that we spent so much time there over and over. We still visit the Ranch on occasion because it is only 30 miles south of Tucson and is incredibly beautiful. Natural grasslands with oak and walnut trees, and a total change from the Sonoran desert to it’s north. I have many images taken at the Ranch over the years but recently went there specifically for a shoot. My notecard series has only four designs, but it gives you an idea of the vast beauty.
