Downtown Tucson–colorful and historical with an almost never-ending supply of backgrounds and backdrops, Downtown Tucson is one of my favorite places to shoot portraits, even at 6am on a warm May morning. Looks include barrio, urban, southwest, native American, modern and even a hint of small-town mid-America with the gazebo and green grass of Mesilla Plaza (Plaza de la Mesilla historical site). Ashley and Alex were a great match for this area since Ashley is a native Tucsonan and Alex is a British subject that “likes the heat…”. Yes, I did tell him he was in the right place, but I was also able to shoot enough green areas to make him feel at home while stretching him a bit with more portrait interaction than he is generally comfortable with–what can I say? I’m gifted that way (in stretching people). Naturally, the lighting was fabulous at that time of the morning and it did not disappoint–in fact, I was able to capture some images that I have never seen done by anyone else, nor have I ever attempted them myself before this. The brilliant color reflections of the sunrise on the skyscrapers created an amazing opportunity to combine color and silhouette for a unique look…let me know your thoughts. Ashley and Alex are fun to watch as they tease each other, and of course, how could I not like his accent? My favorite accent of all time is a British one, along with their colloquialisms. I am looking forward to shooting their outdoor wedding next Spring. Thanks Ashley and Alex for letting me be a part of your memories!
